Dance with me

I am an actor.  Been one for a long time.  I can display both reason and emotions from prospectives profoundly varied.  Many characters reside within and I can, and do, display them with aplomb.  What I can not do is….Dance.  It has been a great shame of my existence.  That is one reason why I am so pleased that in this, the presumably last third of my life, I have the pleasure of a long term acquaintance with one who is deeply involved in the Dance Community on the UCSB, California, US and international level.

Last week she told me with little room for debate, “We are going to a movie.”  OK.  Didn’t know anything beyond that, but I trust her.  What we saw was “PINA, a film for Pina Bausch by Wim Wenders”.  As I sit here writing, I am still overwhelmed.  The music ranged from classical to modern, the cinematography beautiful, sets from complex stages to forest, beach and mountain.  But what effected me most was the clear, present, and deep emotional relationships portrayed.  From facial expression, touch, hesitation, position, movement and energy, the relationships either between or within the members of the outstanding  Tanztheater Wuppertal, or between them and the audience were strong, obvious, and moving.

As any reader of this blog knows, relationships are important to me.  The basis of the erotic comes from the relationships of the partners.  Much within this film expressed what I wish to share, not only the joyous emotional movement but also the honest pain that was so obvious.  It is what, as an actor and a human, I wish to share with my partner, and with what audience I may enjoy.

While my body, experience, training and health do not allow it, in my heart, I am a Dancer.
